5 Tips for Repurposing Existing Content

Producing and publishing content on a regular basis is an effective way of driving traffic to your website, but it can quickly become a tedious task. Half a day’s worth of work can sometimes go to simply producing a worthy blog post! That being said, if your goal is to drive traffic and convert more leads, repurposing your existing content is likely to become your knight in shining armor!

Here are five life-saving ways to repurpose existing content in order to create efficiencies and leverage your assets:

1. Use different formats

Have an in-depth blog post on a popular topic? Try taking that content and turning it into a video or podcast. According to Hubspot, people follow illustrated directions 323 percent better than plain, written text. Why not turn your data into a stellar infographic which is more likely to be shared and “liked” three times as often than any other kind of content?

2. Refresh old content

Refresh old successful posts by updating them with more current information statistics. Write detailed tutorials or tips that expand on your previous content to extend the post’s lifespan and stay up to date with popular trends.

3. Edit under-performing blogs

Analyze blogs that aren’t doing as well as you hoped. If you think the topics have potential, you might be able to salvage them by rewriting, extending or simply improving the pieces. Some ideas include turning an article into a guide or how-to piece, using information from the piece in an infographic, adding new formatting like numbers or bulleted lists or enhancing the piece with videos, social embeds or other types of media. Find the value in the content and think of a way to enhance it!

4. Repost and re-promote to social media

Reposting and re-promoting to your social media networks can be an effective way to reach people in different time zones, attract new followers and test various headlines. Research done by Tim Tunguz has shown that reposting can bring in 75 percent of the engagement of the original share so don’t be afraid to repost your most popular pieces of content!

5. Transform lists into summaries

Have you ever wrote a “10 Tips to..” piece and feel as though one of the tips deserves more time and attention? Here’s your chance to give it the spotlight it deserves! Try taking a “10 Tips to..” post and breaking down each tip into its own, in-depth post linking from the original.

The point of repurposing existing content is to maintain the benefit of driving traffic to your site, without having to write new content every single day. Hopefully, these 5 tips will help get you started! For more advice, don’t hesitate to call!
