This summer has truly flown by, and I cannot believe that my time here at Burkhart has come to an end. As the Social Media + Digital Marketing Intern, I had so many unique opportunities. As I move on to my senior year of college, I would like to look back and reflect on everything that I have learned thus far.
My Internship Experience
As a junior in college, this was my very first internship! I didn’t really know what to expect or how things were going to operate. Something that crossed my mind was, “Do I really have to wear a suit and tie every day?” When I first got to Burkhart, it was completely different from what I was expecting. They are an agency that treats everyone like they are a part of the team.
Most of my time was spent writing social posts and making a visual to go along with them. After those posts were made, we used a scheduling platform called Sprout Social to stay ahead. I also wrote informative marketing blogs and collected/presented monthly website and social media analytics.
Using Sprout for the first time was a little confusing. However, after a couple of weeks, I was able to get into the groove of things. This platform is almost necessary when working with multiple clients at once. I was able to stay organized and ahead of the game.
During the summer, I was given the opportunity to have some pretty unique experiences. In May, I went to Indy Motor Speedway and shot content for one of our clients all while being on Gasoline Alley! In June, we got to go on site and be on the set of a live TV segment while one of our clients was the guest. I am so grateful to have had these experiences!
Lessons Learned
For me, the most important thing I have learned from this internship is the abundance of knowledge. Being in the office can look a little repetitive at times, but there is always something new to learn every day.
All of the great people at Burkhart are there to help you succeed. They take the time out of their busy schedules to answer questions and set us up for a successful future.
I want to thank everyone at Burkhart for helping me achieve my goals and for being such great role models. This opportunity was indeed a gift, and I am so thankful that I had such great people to work with.
